By the grace of Al-Mighty ALLAH, the GCWUF library has completed its automation project. Now the library is providing services through KOHA library management software. In this regard a session entitled “Briefing on Automation of GCWUF Library” was held on 31 August 2021 in Committee Room of GCWUF. Session chaired by Worthy Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Robina Farooq. Librarian Mrs. Misbah Bashir briefed on the newly automatized system. Library automation is the general term for information and communications technologies (ICT) that are used to replace manual systems in the library. She explained in detail why GCWUF library needed library automation: • To obtain increased operational efficiencies • To improve the quality, speed, and effectiveness of services • To providing users-oriented services • To improve access to resources on other networks and systems, including the Web • To provide new services not hitherto possible • To improve the management of their physical and financial resources, • To facilitate wider access to information for their clients, • To facilitate wider dissemination of their information products and services, • To enable their participation in resource-sharing library networks and enable rapid communication with other libraries. The following functions have been automated: acquisition, serial management, reference, and cataloging, Check In/ Check Out library materials with barcode system. Registrar, Treasurer, Resident Auditor, Director Quality Enhancement Cell, Incharge Media Cell, Manager IT, Director P&IC, all coordinators, and Members of library committee were present in that session. At the end of the session Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Robina Farooq appreciated efforts of library staff. She admired data management and connections of library with the international libraries.
