Four-year degree programme in Islamic Banking and Finance.

Government College Women University Faisalabad has laid a stepping stone in the banking field by introducing a four-year degree programme in Islamic Banking and Finance. This programme is going to be launched with the collaboration of the State Bank of Pakistan. Mr Muhammad Ashraf (MD- SBP BSC) was the chief guest of the launching ceremony. Mr Shaukat Zaman (ED/GH- SBP BSC), Mr Sarfraz Ahmad Nadeem (CM-SBP BSC Faisalabad), and Prof. Dr. Saad Siddiqi were the guests of honour. Regional heads of all conventional and Islamic banks were also present on the occasion. Registrar GCWUF Dr Zill-i-Huma Nazli, Coordinator Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Dr Syeda Samina Tahira, Coordinator Faculty of Humanities and Languages Dr Imrana Shehzadi, Treasurer Dr. Nousheen Syed, Controller Examination Mrs Rizwana Tanveer, Director Student Affairs Ms Asma Aziz, Trall HODs and students of Islamic Studies department attended the ceremony. Miss. Saira Akhter was the stage secretary. Miss Shazia Adnan, Incharge Department of Islamic Studies delivered a note of thanks whereas Ms Asma Aziz briefed the audience about the aims, objectives, core subjects and prospects of the programme. Mr Muhammad Ashraf Khan, MD SBP, shared his views on Islamic Banking in Pakistan. He talked about a very bright future of Islamic Banking in Pakistan. He admired the role of Ulema and sharia in the projection of Islamic rules in the banking sector. He told that 3500 branches of Islamic Banking are working in Pakistan with the efforts of Ulema and sharia. He extended his good wishes for the success of this newly launched programme in the university. Prof. Dr Saad Siddiqui (professor PU Lahore, member BOS Islamic Studies department) highlighted the value of Fiqah and conventional banking. He elaborated on the significance of studying Islamic Banking in universities. He admired Islamic Studies Department for offering such a course as a subject. Government College Women University Faisalabad aims to deliver quality education and services to explore multiple opportunities of success and building strong collaborations leading to a positive change in our students, our institutions, and communities around the world. It is the first ever women university which is going to initiate a four-year degree program in the field of Islamic Banking which is not available in any other institute of Pakistan, says Vice Chancellor GC Women University Faisalabad, Prof. Dr. Robina Farooq during her speech in the launching ceremony of BS Programme in Islamic Banking. She stated that promising career opportunities and a rich scope of research in the field of Islamic Banking is the key reason to invite academia to work hand in hand with this economic sector to strengthen our country in this field. She thanked the top management of State Bank of Pakistan for extending its support for successful launch of this program while appreciating the efforts of Mr. Muhammad Akbar, Sr. Deputy Chief Manager and Head Development Finance Division and Miss Asma Aziz Director Student Affairs for their strenuous working on this project. She greeted the university community on successful launch of the valuable programme. Miss Zaira Bano from Bank Alfalah Islamic and Miss Najma from Women Bank shared their experiences as women bankers, and they shed light on career opportunities in banking field. The inauguration ceremony proceeded to an MOU ceremony between GCWUF and SBP to work collaboratively to achieve set goals. The ceremony ended on souvenirs distribution and the group photo of all the guests.
